Epiphany: Chalking up a Blessing

"The Magi" by He Qi

January 6 is the day of Epiphany (the twelfth day of Christmas), when many traditions of the Christian church remember the visit of the magi to the Holy Child.  Epiphany (and the season following) are a season of light, when we consider who Christ is and how we bear his light into the world around us.  Some Christians have a tradition of offering a blessing on one another’s homes on this day by chalking the numbers of the year split by the initials of the magi (also an anagram for the Latin phrase “Christ bless this house”).  For this year, it would be: 20+C+B+M+12.  Will you chalk up a blessing?  Read more about Epiphany and the chalk blessing here.
