"Pentecost" by Chinese artist He Qi

Pentecost was originally an Old Testament agricultural festival, but by Jesus’ time, had evolved into a celebration of God’s setting aside “the chosen people”.  Acts 2 recounts the story of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the early Christians, empowering them to witness to Jesus as the Christ, and forming “the Church”.  The color red and the symbol of flames remember that the Holy Spirit appeared as tongues of flame on each one present.  Read more about Pentecost in the tradition of the Church.
